The menu embraces the art of the perfect burger and all-American staples with dishes that practically sing with savory goodness. Their cheeseburger with fries is a customer favorite—juicy, expertly smashed patties topped with melted cheese and crispy bacon, encased in a soft bun that strikes just the right balance between tender and sturdy. For those seeking more variety, the pulled pork sandwich, served with mac and cheese and coleslaw alongside a warm roll, creates a symphony of smoky, creamy, and tangy flavors that linger delightfully on the palate.
Route 88’s commitment to flavor shines brightly in their hot dog offerings, especially the iconic Chicago Style Dog. Each all-beef hot dog is grilled to perfection, then lavishly topped with zesty dill pickle, vibrant Chicago green relish, piquant sport peppers, fresh tomatoes, and a dash of celery seed—all nestled on a poppy seed roll that’s as authentic as it gets. Equally enticing is the Route 88 Dog, topped with bold brown mustard, rich chili, and German cabbage relish, delivering a perfect balance of spice and tang.
For those seeking vegetarian options, the restaurant impressively offers Impossible vegan patties in single, double, and triple sizes, ensuring no diner misses out on the fresh, juicy burger experience. The shoestring fries, whether regular or large, act as the ideal crispy counterpoint to any meal—especially when topped with chili cheese, a decadent choice praised by locals.
Beyond the taste, the vibe here is simply magnetic. Guests often find themselves drawn into warm camaraderie around the outdoor fire pit, under the open sky, sipping on a cold Wild Trail Pale Ale as they gaze over rolling hills, ski slopes, and the golf course nearby. It’s a scene that combines comfort food with scenic tranquility, creating a dining experience that delights all senses.

Double cheese burger with bacon beautiful smash burgers cooked to perfection. Chicago dog in all its poppyseed covered glory. I can never find them anywhere so Very excited. Chili cheese fries had killer chili on them, loved the beans! Cold beer and a warm fire what more could i ask for!
Cool little hangout that over looks the small ski slope they have set up. Burgers, fries, and hot dogs are basically the entire menu but the burgers and shoestring fries were served hot and delicious, fairly priced, self service beer, and some small snacks and chips. Fire pit area outside with the fire was a fun place to hang after eating! My whole family loved it!
Fragile Bun Steals Fun I would gamble that there’s not a prettier setting in WV to eat a burger. Rolling hills, Ski Slopes and unobstructed views for miles. But the burger bun should hold up emotionally and physically. RT88BB got recommended as the best burger in Wheeling and in a sea of frozen patties laced with soy, they may be right. But if you pick up this burger you can’t put it down because the bun disintigrates in your hands. I had to ask for a second top bun which also split the second I touched it. I got a double “all the way” and the bun made it “some of the way.” Don’t order the triple unless you plan on using a fork. If this burg gets a sturdy potato bun in the future it’ll be list worthy, today its just wish worthy. Fine burg, keep it to a single.
I like the old rustic feel it gives when ya first walk in. The burger and fries was referred to us by a lady that works at the Carriage House glass museum. She bragged about how good the food was there. She was correct on that.
Amazing hotdogs! Nice outdoor, pet friendly space overlooking the golf course. Easy access from the road
This is a great place to grab a burger, hot dog, or fries and a drink. Live music on weekends was cool. It is a very rustic joint but ended up sharing a table with a fun couple and had a good evening learning about Wheeling / Bridgeport area.
Great little place for fun & a light meal. Burgers were fantastic & the table loved the fries as well. Fair prices, friendly service & a clean environment. The balcony seats on the back of the restaurant provide AMAZING views. The driving range, practice putting green & par 3 course look like a very fun opportunity.
